Introduction to Muslim Space's Mental Health Blog
Assalamu’Alaikum and welcome! The Muslim Space organization has graciously allowed me to publish mental health related content to their website. Before I publish anything, I wanted to briefly introduce myself and my goals for this blog. My name is Sana Raza Hussain, and I currently reside in the Austin area. I’m a graduate student at Texas State University, pursuing a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling – Marriage, Couple, & Family Counseling (MCFC) Track with the ultimate goal of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), insha’Allah (God-willing).
Historically, there has been a stigma associated with mental health within various Muslim communities. While the conversations about mental health have increased, we still have a lot of work to do.
My goals for this blog are the following:
Reduce the stigma of mental health within our communities
Provide well-informed and appropriately cited posts on various pertinent mental health and social justice related topics
Make connections between mental health and social justice topics to Islamic principles
Curate a list of mental health resources available to you
If you have any questions or concerns about this introduction or any future posts of mine, please email info@muslimspace.org. I look forward to utilizing my growing skills in the mental health field to better serve the Muslim Space community, insha’Allah.
