Committees

Operational committees are the driving force that keeps Muslim Space in motion and our community active and engaged.  The committees draw together people with different expertise to share information and coordinate actions. Each committee offers flexible time commitments and responsibilities as well as support and guidance from the Board of Directors and the Executive Team.

ISLAMIC ENRICHMENT

The Faith-Based/Faith Initiatives Committee serves to plan, coordinate, and arrange all faith-based programming at Muslim Space. These programs include, but are not limited to: Non-denominational/inclusive Islamic enrichment events such as Friday Prayers, Islamic/Qur'anic Studies for adults and youth, guest lectures/halaqas, as well as Ramadan programming and special Islamic holiday events. In addition to educational programs, the committee provides spaces and events which serve to enrich the spiritual experience of community members, through initiatives such as Monthly Book Club, Spiritual Connections Groups, as well as inter/intrafaith events with other communities.

COMMUNITY & FAITH ENGAGEMENT

The Community Outreach Committee plans, organizes, and facilitates initiatives, activities, and events for both the internal Muslim Space Community and the Greater Austin/external community. With regards to internal programming, the committee coordinates events such as the "Inside Islam" series, our Spritiual Connections program, as well as general Chaplaincy Services, which include group and 1:1 pastoral care sessions and spaces. Apart from the recurring internal programming, the Committee also puts on special event programs such as the High School Seniors Celebration, and others. Externally, the Committee primarily works in areas of service and volunteering, allowing members to get involved with recurring volunteer and service opportunities, such as the food pantry, school library project, and others. The committee helps facilitate Muslim Space's regular Zakat distributions within the Central Texas area.

SOCIAL & RECREATION

The Social Committee focuses on providing programming that helps cultivate a strong sense of connection between community members apart from solely faith-based programming, while at the same time encouraging a holistic, family-friendly and Islamic balance in all aspects of involvement. These programs include, but are not limited to: arts & crafts activities, community potlucks, community game nights, seasonal/holiday activities and celebrations, and other social opportunities. Through such programs and activities, the committee provides a space for youth and adults of all ages to embrace their Muslim-American identities as they are comfortable, and ultimately hope to instill a sense of ownership and pride in the fluidity and holistic nature of the Islamic faith.
