Statement of Principles
THE POLICIES OF MUSLIM SPACE ARE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES:
The sources of Islam are the Holy Qur'an and the authentic (or 'sahih' in Arabic) practices (Sunnah) of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Cultural, ethnic and nationalistic traditions are personal practices and not sources of Islam
Muslim Space values that diversity strengthens the human experience. “Oh mankind, We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into races and tribes, so that you may identify one another. Surely the noblest of you, in Allah’s sight, is the one who is most pious of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.” (49:13)
Arabic is the language of the Holy Qur'an. The language of communication and for conducting activities of Muslim Space is the English language.
Sect, school of thought (or 'madhab' in Arabic), cultural/ethnic/nationalistic traditions are personal preferences and not a community policy.
Muslim Space is committed to projecting and promoting Islam in its original egalitarian, pluralistic and just manner.
Women and men are equally responsible to put forth the effort, develop and implement the policies and activities of the Muslim Space.
Muslim Space is an open space with no gender barrier and embraces the values of modesty, purity of heart, and clarity of conscience. Segregation of the sexes is not a guarantee of righteousness.
Muslim Space advocates equal access and equal treatment, in line with the ethics and codes of Islamic behavior as practiced in the time of the Prophet. Discrimination will not be tolerated in any form.
Muslim Space aims to create an environment where every attendee is welcome and affirmed with kindness, compassion and respect for all fellow humans as sisters and brothers in humanity.
There is no compulsion in religion. The role of Muslim Space is to inspire spirituality, not to compel dogma. Muslim Space does not judge people or classify Muslims. Muslim Space aims to be an inclusive and inviting haven and a beacon of light to all.
Muslim Space is a local organization, giving priority to local and national American efforts. Preoccupation with cultural and political activities abroad is inconsistent with its mission.
Muslim Space honors the constitution of the United States as the guiding legal principle of the Nation and shall abide by all the applicable laws of the land.
