The word yoga means union; it aims to unite the body, mind, and spirit into an integrated whole. More expansively, it aims to unite the individual soul with the divine soul. In partnership with Austin Yoga Tree -- more than a yoga studio; a hub for mindfulness and passionate living in Austin, Texas -- Muslim Space invites you to join us this Ramadan prior to breaking fast in a gentle yoga practice that will help enhance your divine connection; fuel your mind, body and spirit; and alleviate some of the stressors and side-effects that often occur as a result of fasting (headaches, fatigue, irritability...).

For your reference, here is an interesting article on the symmetry between Ramadan fasting and yoga.
Gentle Ramadan Yoga is a slow paced class that is suitable for all practitioners regardless of physical fitness or yoga experience. It includes basic seated, standing, and supported poses to restore energy, provide healing, reduce stress, and soothe the mind. The focus is on the breath, mindfulness, body awareness, and modifying for where you are today. Come as you are, relax and unwind with a passive experience that will help you rejuvenate. This class will soothe your nerves as well as your stiff joints and is the perfect antidote to negative effects of any physical and mental exertion that is a part of your day.
Joanne, our Gentle Ramadan Yoga instructor, has been teaching yoga for over 15 years and her motto is, “Yoga is for everybody and every body.” She guides students with modifications and acceptance, recognizing that we all have different needs and abilities. A message from Joanne, your Gentle Ramadan Yoga instructor:
Dear Students,
We will be offering a Gentle Yoga class Monday evenings to all, regardless of experience and abilities. Bring the whole family together to relax, unwind and help heal the mind and body.
For those of us that might have difficulties sitting on the floor, we can use a chair (dining room, desk chair, etc.) to sit on. This is also beneficial for students whose mobility is limited or those of us with knee or back issues.
Gentle Yoga is great for kids too! We'll have fun moving our bodies and even try some enjoyable balancing poses.
No mats or props needed, but great if you have a yoga mat. Blankets, pillows from the bed, and some other items might be useful and we will cover that before each class. Wear comfy, stretchy clothing (avoid pants with zippers and buttons as these can restrain the breath).
We look forward to coming together as a community to support and connect with each other through Ramadan.
