iACT Raise the Roof Event
Interfaith Hands on Housing Repair Day is a day for volunteers from different faith traditions to come together to work side by side on fixing up the home of a senior neighbor whose house needs some TLC.
Join Muslim Space and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints: Anderson Mill on Oct. 21st to put your faith into action. You do not have to have prior experience. We will have tasks for all experience levels from carpentry work, to raking and bagging leaves, to sanding and scraping paint, to painting during the second half of the day. Anyone 16 years or older can come lend a helping hand.
*Lunch will be provided.
*ONLY close toed shoes allowed.
*Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty/paint stained.
*Bring refillable water bottles.
*Everyone must sign a safety waiver prior to beginning work.
Tasks:
Prep Work -- In the morning, volunteers will be clearing out debris from the yard, scraping old paint around the exterior of the house, taping off the windows so that paint doesn't get on areas where we don't want paint. We will also lay out plastic sheets to cover up the walkways, plants and other areas that we don't want to have paint dripping. More skilled volunteers will also be replacing some siding along the house.
Once the home has been prepped -- Volunteers will spend the afternoon painting the exterior of the home, and by the end of the day we will be able to see the difference your hard work will have made on this house! The home we will be supporting is going to be in zip code XXXXX, but to protect the privacy of the homeowner, the address will be shared after reservation.
Morning Shift (8:30am-1:30pm): Primarily responsible for helping prep the house through sanding, scraping, taping, and helping clear the yard.
Afternoon Shift (12:30pm-5:30pm): Primarily responsible for finishing prep work as needed, painting exterior of the house, and clean up.
Snacks/Lunch Crew: If you would like to help by dropping off snacks for the morning and/or afternoon, please choose this option. Ideal snack options include: bananas, cuties, granola bars, snack size chips, individual fruit drinks or soda cans.
